ANCOR Foundation Honors Community Integration for People With Disabilities
ALEXANDRIA, VA – The ANCOR Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2013 Community Builder Award is Kiwanis International’s Aktion Clubs. The Community Builder Award recognizes individuals and organizations that make inclusivity and community integration a reality for people with disabilities. The Aktion Clubs offer adults with disabilities opportunities to serve their communities while developing leadership skills.
Aktion Clubs engage adults with disabilities in planning and executing service projects in their communities. Club members learn by doing, developing leadership and decision-making skills, organization and teamwork. Most important, they demonstrate their interest and ability in becoming active members of their communities. There are more than 11,000 Club members worldwide.
“The success of the Aktion Clubs demonstrates that people with disabilities can be not only active in their communities, but leaders in their communities,” said Bill Tapp, president of the ANCOR Foundation. “We’re pleased to lift up the Aktion Clubs as an example of how this can be achieved.”
