  • KIWANIS’ AKTION CLUB RECEIVES COMMUNITY BUILDER AWARD

    ANCOR Foundation Honors Community Integration for People With Disabilities

    ALEXANDRIA, VA – The ANCOR Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2013 Community Builder Award is Kiwanis International’s Aktion Clubs. The Community Builder Award recognizes individuals and organizations that make inclusivity and community integration a reality for people with disabilities. The Aktion Clubs offer adults with disabilities opportunities to serve their communities while developing leadership skills.

    Aktion Clubs engage adults with disabilities in planning and executing service projects in their communities. Club members learn by doing, developing leadership and decision-making skills, organization and teamwork. Most important, they demonstrate their interest and ability in becoming active members of their communities. There are more than 11,000 Club members worldwide.

    “The success of the Aktion Clubs demonstrates that people with disabilities can be not only active in their communities, but leaders in their communities,” said Bill Tapp, president of the ANCOR Foundation. “We’re pleased to lift up the Aktion Clubs as an example of how this can be achieved.”

    The ANCOR Foundation is a 501(c) (3) organization created with the mission to build the commitment and capacity of community disability service providers and communities to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. The Foundation supports a variety of leadership development and training efforts and honors individual leadership in the industry with its Legacy Leaders Circle awards. It also recognizes individuals, organizations and communities that promote choices and inclusion for people with disabilities through the annual Community Builder Awards.

Kiwanis-family clubs around the globe are using this week to focus on raising funds and awareness for The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. Every Aktion Club is needed to participate. The time to start planning your fundraising project is now. And we have made it easy:

    Easy fundraising ideas to make it simple for you to choose your event.
    If your club participates, the club is eligible for fundraising recognition and a 2013 Eliminate Week patch.

  • Save the Date

    Join us for the Third Annual Training and Leadership Conference
    September 6–8

    Kiwanis International and the Indiana Districtof Aktion Club invite you to Indianapolis forthe 2013 Training and Leadership Conference at Jameson Camp, September 6–8.Participate in workshops for leadership training and personal development. Get involved in service projects. Enjoy fun times and fellowship with other Aktion Club members.

    Jameson Camp is one of the most popular places for conferences and gatherings in Indianapolis.It’s also close to the Indianapolis InternationalAirport—so it’s convenient for members too.Thanks to Jameson Camp, your registration covers more this year. The fee for each TLC attendee is US$100, which pays for food and lodging during the conference—as well as events and transportation at the camp.

  • The AC TEE Contest

    Nobody promotes Aktion Club and its values quite like Aktion Clubbers themselves. So when it comes to a T-shirt that spreads the message, members deserve the chance to design it. That is why we are giving members a chance to submit their design for the new Aktion Club t-shirt. The winning design will be sold in the Kiwanis Store for a whole year! 

    Interested? Eligible designs must: 

    • Promote Aktion Club. No district, division or club names or mascots. 
    • Use three colors or fewer. 
    • Be submitted as a high-resolution file. All formats are acceptable. 


    The deadline for all submissions is July 1, 2013, so start designing your T-shirt today! Once your design is complete, send it to aktionclubinfo@kiwanis.org, along with your name, advisor name, email address and phone number. The international staff will judge the entries. The winner will be announced at the Training and Leadership Conference in September, 2013. 

    A few things to remember: 

    • The winning entry will be screen-printed on the front of a white T-shirt. 
    • All images should be copyright-free. Please create your own imagery or find copyright-free materials. For ideas, check out http://search.creativecommons.org. Note: Some material from Creative Commons can be used only if you attribute it to the original creator. 
    • All submissions become the property of Kiwanis International. Submissions may be uploaded by staff to social networking sites and used during Aktion Club Training and Leadership Conference or other events.
