Members make play inclusive in Brighton

More than two years of fundraising and planning paid off for the Brighton Aktion Club in New York  on July 9. Along with the Brighton Kiwanis Club, members helped make the Brighton Kiwanis Playground more inclusive by adding a Sway-Fun Inclusive Glider. One of the first pieces of truly inclusive playground equipment in a public park in Monroe County, the glider allows children who use wheelchairs to play alongside other kids.

To make it happen, the Brighton Aktion Club held a year-long fundraiser, selling more than US$2,000 of hand-crafted magnets. And they made it a Kiwanis-family affair: In addition to Brighton Kiwanians, the Brighton High School Key Club and the University of Rochester Circle K club got involved.

The Kiwanis club also helped create awareness for the glider—while raising more funds through their Jewels of Jamaica Raffle (and other events). Overall, it’s a perfect example of reaching more kids who need us by coming together as a Kiwanis family to conceive, fund and follow through on a life-changing project. Watch the video now
