Aktion Club leads Diaper Dump success

Ten charities. Hundreds of dollars. Thousands of diapers. One hugely successful Aktion Club project.

In March, The Aktion Club of Highlands County, Florida, led a drive to collect cash and supplies to help babies and families in need. The result: 11,083 diapers, 6,084 wipes and 14 baby blankets. A total of US$1,329.40 in cash was collected—and then used to buy more diapers and wipes from Diapers.com.

The Aktion Club kicked off the campaign on March 20, bringing nearly 7,000 diapers and more than US$300 to its club meeting. Then came Diaper Dump Day. On March 29, 15 club members collected cash in milk-jug canisters alongside U.S. 27. Joined by a club advisor and four volunteers from local charities, they collected US$994.13, more than 3,000 diapers—and those 14 blankets. A tent off of the roadside served as the "diaper dump" location, attracting generous donors such as the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, which made a huge donation.

Ultimately, the Aktion Club of Highlands County served its community by assisting 10 local organizations. Eight different children’s charities received diapers, wipes and blankets, while two others received a total of more than 1,200 adult diapers.
