More than 100 at AKtion Club fundraiser

More than 100 people attended the Midland AKtion Club’s second annual Talent Show/Art Exhibit/Fundraiser at the Midland First United Methodist Church. Emcee Jeremy Mathews introduced acts that included solos, group songs, original poems, jokes, instrumental pieces and a finale in which the audience joined the company in singing “Smile.”

Performers included members of AKtion Club, the Kiwassee and Midland Kiwanis Clubs and Northwood’s Circle K. The art exhibit featured paintings, drawings, photography, greeting cards, needle-crafts, jewelry and a business card collection.

The event raised more than $600 for EliMiNaTe, a joint project between Kiwanis International and UNICEF that provides education and vaccinations to end maternal and neo-natal tetanus in mothers and children around the world.

Sponsored by the Kiwassee Kiwanis Club and the Arnold Center, the Midland AKtion Club is a service organization for adults living with disabilities. Members attend regular meetings, volunteer for a variety of projects throughout the community and raise funds to support initiatives that help children and youth around the world.
