Aktion Club arrives in Europe!

On December 16, the Kiwanis family reached an important milestone: the founding and charter celebration of the first Aktion Club in Europe. Aktion Club of Weinviertel attracted 80 guests from across the country and around the world to Korneuburg, Austria. Thanks to Mayor Christian Gepp, the historic ballroom of the Town Hall was host to the event, which included speeches and good wishes from members of the Kiwanis family.

For instance, Austria District President Josef Wasser spoke of his pride as founder of the Aktion Club of Weinviertel.  He also talked about the general importance of Aktion Club in Europe. “Inclusion is one of our major goals,” Wasser said. “Aktion Club empowers people with disabilities. Members use their talents for the community. Leadership, taking responsibility, making decisions on their own—that is exactly what we want to promote through Aktion Club.”

Other speakers included Stefan Schlager, president of the Kiwanis Club Hollabrunn Weinviertel, who promised that his club would always lend a helping hand to the Aktion Club. He presented the club banner, the bell and the mallet to Ronny Pfennigbauer, the Aktion Club’s first president.

Kiwanis International President Gunter Gasser expressed his pride in Austria’s latest Kiwanis achievement. The first Kiwanis club outside of the U.S. had been founded in Austria 50 years ago in Vienna, he said, and now the first Aktion Club outside the U.S. was being founded in Austria.

Along with all Kiwanis members, Aktion Club is pleased to welcome Aktion Club Weinviertel to the Kiwanis family—and to congratulate everyone in Korneuburg on a great celebration.
