For Andrew Cowling and Gregory Reilly of the Aktion Club of Community Connections in Mashpee, MA, working together has resulted in a big impact—far beyond their own community. They're raising money for Maya Childcare, a organization in the UK that supports the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development children living in poverty-stricken areas of Guatemala.

Andrew, the club's vice president, met a representative from Maya Childcare at his Rotary Club meeting. He immediately wanted to help her cause and invited her to one of the Aktion Club's meetings. Andrew worked with his club advisor to communicate and make arrangements. After or the presentation to the club, the members voted to donate the proceeds from their upcoming fundraising dance in April to the cause.

Gregory, the club secretary, set up the event. He contacted the venue for the dance and talked to them about possible dates, available spaces and how to book the venue. As a result, the big event is scheduled for April 10. Gregory even made the invitation himself—and proceeded to plan the menu, guest list and musical theme. The money raised will go to Maya Childcare and will be used by their Acorn Childcare Center to continue to provide good nutrition, a safe and caring environment and early-childhood education to small kids in need.

Together, Andrew and Gregory have shown what Aktion Club is all about. Putting their talents to use in a collaboration, they have planned an excellent event that will help change lives through leadership and service.
