Aktion Club member's art featured in Malaysia

During a trip to Malaysia last September, Kiwanis International Board member Jane Erickson visited multiple Down Syndrome centers in as part of a Kiwanis-related trip. While touring the Careheart Center in Johor Bahru, the director mentioned their art gallery contained no artwork from the United States. When Jane said she thought could obtain an artwork from an Aktion Club member in her Nebraka-Iowa District, the director said he’d be delighted.

That's where Spencer Rideout came in. Working with Floyd Hutzell, Aktion Club's admininstrator for the district, Jane got in touch with John Green, an Aktion Club advisor in Iowa City. When John gave club members an opportunity to create an artwork, Spencer stepped up with several. He took them to the Kiwanis 100th anniversary celebration in Iowa City this spring and talked to Jane about each piece. He allowed Jane to choose one to send to the Careheart Center.

"It's an honor and a privilege," Jane says, "to have an Aktion Club member’s artwork displayed so prominently in a very special organization on the other side of the world. Kiwanis clubs and Aktion Clubs have made the world a smaller, more engaging, and much friendlier place."
