Fun activities are a way for members to naturally get to know one another. Try one or more of these activities to encourage connections.
- Use name tags that tell a story. Members create name tags that share their interests at the first meeting and use them throughout the year.
- Create member mailboxes. Write each member’s name on an 8-by-10-inch envelope (one envelope per member) and place the envelopes in a common area. Challenge members to write kind messages and leave them in their teammates’ mailboxes.
- Include a “Member Spotlight” in club meetings. With the help of members, draft interview questions. Use them throughout the year to interview different members at each meeting.
- Add “Show and Tell” to the meeting agenda when there is a new member. Encourage them to bring a favorite item to the meeting and talk about it for three minutes.
- Start a buddy system. Pair members during meetings and service activities. Have members swap partners after a set time period (such as monthly).
- Incorporate a sharing circle for service projects. Before the event, members share how they feel and how they hope to help. Afterward, they share how they feel and what they learned.
After members show that they feel comfortable and connected during meetings and service events, try planning several club social events (like a game night, movie night, bowling challenge or karaoke night) each year.
