For Halloween, we’re inviting clubs to support Start Strong: Zambia, Key Club International’s signature project benefiting UNICEF’s early childhood development work in Zambia.

Funds raised go toward building insakas: community centers made from sustainable materials that give children and families a place to learn, play and grow. Each insaka includes a public hall, classrooms, a community kitchen, a vegetable garden, sanitation facilities and a playground.

Last year, Aktion Club and Builders Club members joined Key Club to raise US$86,955! That’s enough to fund two full insaka community centers, each complete with a classroom and a playground. Imagine what we could build together this year with your club’s help.

Getting your club involved

You don’t need to start from scratch. We have everything you might need, along with videos and resources that help members understand who they’re raising funds for and why it matters. From there, it’s a matter of picking a fundraiser members will enjoy: a costume parade, a pumpkin-decorating contest, a bake sale or a movie night all work well. Inviting a local Key Club, Builders Club or your sponsoring Kiwanis club to join in multiplies both the fun and the impact.

Don’t forget the iconic orange Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes. Clubs can reuse what’s left from last year or order more from the Kiwanis Family Store by October 21, then encourage members to collect donations while trick-or-treating with friends and family. Spread the word around town and on social media using #TOT4UNICEF and #AktionClub to help other clubs and families get inspired to join in, too.

Wrapping up strong

Once your club has collected its donations, submit them to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund using the downloadable form or donate online. Any club that raises at least US$250 by December 31, 2026, earns a banner patch!

It doesn’t matter how much a club raises — every dollar counts! Just US$20 provides early-learning toys and supplies for four children. Take a moment to recognize your members’ hard work and generosity along the way; it’s part of what makes the season meaningful.
